Often times I have someone come it that complains about tightness or soreness in one of the shoulders. Nine times out of ten it is on the side of handedness. Why is this important?
Because we tend to be strong handed to one side, the muscles tend to be tighter, stronger and want to pull to that side. How does that affect us thought and what can we do to help it? First of all, get adjusted!! The only way to correct a subluxation is to get it adjusted back to where it belongs, back to where it will not interfere with the nerve signals the brain is constantly sending to the rest of the body. If the vertebra is pulled to one side and is not corrected, the nerve roots coming from that area of the spine will have pressure on them preventing them from being able to transmit all the information the brain has sent out or needs to receive. Why is that important? Well, if the brain has received information that the body needs more oxygen in the blood but can't tell the lungs to breathe deeper to get that oxygen, then the rest of the body suffers. Is that a good enough reason? Second thing to do, stop being strong handed. Learn how to use both hands. Start slowly with small tasks, such as brushing your teeth. It will seem awkward at first, but you will eventually get it. This trains both sides to be strong together, maintaining balance. Do not start with hammering nails as your first rebalancing project, more than likely you will hit the wrong nail! If you would like more information on how to better care for your nervous system, feel free to contact me. I would love to share more with you.

In my opinion, which you will be able to see below makes logical sense, children are the most vulnerable to subluxation. They are rapidly growing and developing for the 5-7 first years. Continual bumps and falls can place unhealthy strain on the spine. Poor seated posture, especially in adolescents, can also create subluxations, think of Tech Neck. When you add emotional stressors, (new school, new friends, new family members) to the mix, the body’s control circuits are continually overloaded. As this overloading continues, reactions occur throughout the child’s developing spine and nervous system.
Here are 4 of the most common symptoms of a subluxated child: 1. Failure to thrive/ fatigue/ lethargy (hard to get motivated) 2. Distracted concentration/ altered behaviors (easily upset) 3. Lowered immunity with recurrent infections (ear infections are high on this list) 4. Heightened environmental sensitivities and allergies (spring time allergies) Interestingly, spinal pain and symptoms are not the primary complaint of a subluxated child or adolescent. These certainly can come later as the muscles and joints develop, but it is the non-spinal symptoms that are most troubling to parents and chiropractors. Childhood is when the body is preparing and building for adulthood. If the child's body is not allowed to thrive because of the presence of subluxations, then the child will suffer later on with most of the symptoms adults are accustomed to. As a parent, how long do we let our children live with decreased or diminished nervous system function? Do we want them to survive or to thrive? I would like to thank everyone that was able to be a part of making the ribbon cutting a success. The Delaware Chamber of Commerse were very helpful and know how to make an event like this memorable. We had many visitors here from other local businesses and I loved seeing the support for the community that these people have.
I was put on the spot to make a "speech", one of the things I meant to say during the ribbon cutting and I want to make sure it is mentioned here. I owe much of the credit to my dad. He was willing and happy to help me with all the renovations, updates, and hard work to accomplish such a beautiful office. Without his help, I can only imagine where I would be in this process. To the man who is usually behind the scenes making things happen, thank you dad. Great news everyone!! I finally have a date for my ribbon cutting. The Delaware Chamber of Commerse will be here on Tuesday, June 30 at 11:00 to help celebrate my opening business.
This has been a much anticipated event for me. I can't wait to meet more people, help more people, and to get Connected. If anyone wants to show up, you are more than welcome to be a part of this momentous time in my business. As I mentioned before, I am still offering special Membership rates. I have extended them to the end of August. The office is open. I am here should anyone need to come see me. I have also lowered my rates on a temporary basis to allow people to come in who have had a decrease in their income. My goal is to provide quality care at a reasonable rate to make it affordable to as many people as possible.
I hope to be able to meet more of the people of Delaware each and every week. ![]() With all of the Corona Virus, COVID-19, news going around, I thought I would share some little known information. Our bodies are amazing, when they are functioning correctly. In order for them to function correctly, they need to have uninterupted nerve communication. Read about the Spanish Flu of 1918 below, and check the references if you want. "In the closing days of World War I, a deadly form of influenza ("flu") appeared. The influenza pandemic of 1917-1918 claimed more lives than the war. During this crisis, doctors of chiropractic noticed that their patients seemed to have a lower fatality rate than the general population. Although this chiropractic observation remains unpublished in the peer-reviewed literature (since no scholarly journals were willing to publish chiropractic data in those days), a study was published by the osteopathic profession.1 Among doctors of osteopathy of the time, it was routine to check patients' spines for "osteopathic lesions" (what we know as "subluxations"), and to correct them with manipulation. Due to this similarity, the osteopathic publication effectively verifies the chiropractic experience. The death rate among influenza patients under conventional medical care in the U.S. was estimated at 5 percent to 6 percent. The fatality rate among influenza cases under osteopathic care was estimated at 0.25 percent. The implication drawn from this data by the study's author was that lesions (subluxations) depress the immune system; therefore, correcting the lesions assists immune function. This conclusion, drawn by both osteopaths and chiropractors more than 80 years ago, has received support from recent research. The activity of the immune system's major "players" - the white blood cells - has been found to increase after chiropractic adjustments.2,3 A small, but intriguing study suggests that the immune response of HIV-positive patients (as measured by CD4 count) improves when spinal subluxations are corrected.4,5 In your ordinary, day-to-day experiences, you are not likely to notice that your white blood cells are a bit sluggish. However, this may very well be one effect of spinal subluxation - even in the absence of a sore back or a stiff neck. If you are not already doing so, please consider scheduling monthly chiropractic check-ups, even if you are pain-free." References
